It’s beginning to feel a lot like fall out there—cooler evenings, a newfound crispness in the air, and autumnal decorations everywhere you look. Many families enjoy this change of season, though it’s an increasingly busy time of year. So busy, in fact, that you may find the weeks flying by—and then, suddenly, the holidays are upon us!
Many of our clients receive daily support or 24-hour care, but others have hired a caregiver to provide supplementary care when family members are unavailable. If you provide consistent support to an aging parent or other loved one, you may have to make alternate arrangements when your schedule changes. Understanding how busy most families are, we’ve put together a brief series of reminders related to homecare. If you have any questions or would like to book a Personal Support Worker (PSW) to help care for your aging loved ones, please contact us. We are pleased to assist families in Toronto, Mississauga and the surrounding communities.
When will caregiver support be required?
As we get into the busyness of fall and consider the holiday season ahead, it’s time to look at the calendar and determine if and when your aging loved ones will require additional support. Here are a few things to ask yourself:
- Will I (or other family caregivers) be traveling this fall or winter?
- Are there dates I’ll be unavailable to my aging loved ones due to work or personal commitments?
- When this happens, are there other family members who are willing and able to step in as caregivers?
- Is there a feasible back-up plan in place if those individuals aren’t able to provide care as planned?
Once you’ve figured out if and when family support is available, you can start to make a list of dates/times a Personal Support Worker is required (or wanted). Once you’ve determined those dates, please let us know—we’d be glad to make arrangements for in-home caregiver support.
Important dates
No two schedules are alike, but here are some key dates to consider:
- Rosh Hashanah (October 2-4)

- Hanukkah (beings December 26)
- New Year’s Eve (December 31) and New Year’s Day (January 1)
Please remember to make note of personal celebrations that may involve travel or a change in your availability. This may include birthdays, anniversaries, business trips and work events, visiting children at post-secondary institutions, PA days and other important dates.
