At Living Assistance Services, we’re dedicated to supporting seniors so they can live safely and independently at home for as long as possible. This typically involves helping clients perform Activities of Daily Living (ADLS) such as bathing, dressing and ambulation—but great homecare is about much more than that. We also offer meal preparation, light housekeeping services, transportation and accompaniment to appointments, and perhaps most importantly, joyful companionship that brightens each client’s day.
Here are a few of the ways Living Assistance Services builds meaningful connections with each client and why that matters—to learn more, please contact us. We’d be pleased to answer your questions and offer a quote.
We create relationships—not transactions
There are a lot of PSWs out there, but not everyone knows your aging loved one’s morning routine, favourite television show or how they take their coffee. Our team works diligently to assign specific caregivers to each client so they get to know a few familiar faces rather than a rotating door of staff. Not only does this offer a sense of consistency and reliability, it allows our caregivers to get to know each client on a personal level and better understand their needs. Interacting with a caregiver should never feel awkward or transactional—it should be a comfortable relationship and connection that grows over time.
We ask questions, listen and learn
Our caregivers don’t just spend their shift methodically running through a list of personal care and household tasks—they spend time interacting with your aging loved one in a kind, compassionate, respectful way. They ask questions, listen to your loved one’s answers and learn about them as an individual. They’re true caregivers in the sense that they offer thoughtful, nurturing, individualized attention. That said, our caregivers also ensure that each client is treated with dignity and spoken to in an age-appropriate manner. There are ways to nurture someone while respecting their autonomy. After all, no one wants to feel ‘babied’ by their caregiver! This level of respect is very important and goes a long way.
We go above and beyond
Personal care is incredibly important to our clients well-being—after all, they feel their best when they’re clean, comfortably dressed, at ease and able to enjoy a good meal. Our caregivers assist with bathing, dressing, oral hygiene and more, but they also go above and beyond. This may involve styling a client’s hair, helping them put on makeup or jewellery, reading aloud to them, playing cards or working on a puzzle together, taking a walk, or enjoying a cup of tea and a friendly chat. They may take the time to bake some muffins because they know your loved one enjoys an afternoon snack. Some clients enjoy pleasant conversation throughout the day while others prefer comfortable silence. Because our caregivers build relationships with each client, they’re able to learn each client’s preferences, read their cues and provide personalized care. To us, this personal connection is just as important as supporting ADLs!
Homecare is most beneficial when your aging loved one has a genuine connection with their caregivers, and we do everything we can to make that happen. To learn more about in-home caregiver services in Toronto and the surrounding areas, please contact us. We look forward to hearing from you!
